Does anyone know the proverb about getting hit by the train?

It's something like, "If you get hit once by a train, you will probably scream. If you get hit by a train a second time, you will probably scream. Once, twice, three times - and you are already used to it."

Thanks for your help!

It's not quite a proverb :) And it's about a tram, not train :)

another variant:

It's not a version, it's a VERSE. It's an old (1950s, I guess) city folklore song. I have heard it from my late uncle who was a master performer of songs like that.

i've never heard of this proverb before, but here's the translation:

если вас однажды переедет поезд, вы, возможно, вскрикните. если и во второй вас собьет поезд, вы, скорее всего, снова закричите. один раз, дважды, трижды - и вы уже к этому привыкните.

It's actually about the tram:

Если вас трамвай задавит,
вы, наверное, вскрикнете.
Раз задавит, два задавит,
а потом привыкнете.

But one can easily turn the tram into the train:
Если поезд вас задавит etc.

Don't you have trams in San Francisco? I'm just wondering...

Really. In fact, people do commute in them. I could not get into one, it was overloaded by those who obviously looked like regular commuters :)

We have trams, and we have cable cars! Please do not confuse the two. :)

O'RLY? ^_^ (don't have a smiley for a surprised owl)
There are at least ten cities in the US that still retain trams, and 50 years ago there were much more... Well, it's not really all that relevant, but...

In Philly we have trams, but for strange reason they call it "trolley". I don't know why :)

Yeah, definitely, but I can make a conclusion that there are no trolleybuses in the US then. It would be a mess)

Right. And in LA they call them trolleys too?)

But actually it'not a proverb, just some kind of naughty rhyme ;)

It's an old (1950s, I guess) city folklore song. I have heard it from my late uncle who was a master performer of songs like that. Actually, all three verses are already mentioned here. The one about being punched in the eye goes first, then the tram verse, and the one about get drowned is the final.

It is a piece of city folklore. I don't think it was ever recorded by anybody, neither I think that it has a particular name :)
