elementary russian books
Oct. 25th, 2006 11:21 pmHi everyone. Sorting out my books before moving appartments I have found several books (with tapes, all tapes are unpacked) that I was going to use in 2000 to teach an English businessman Russian. I invested a lot in those- but then somehow we only had one or two lessons and then the person left Moscow as his office was transferred to Kiev or somewhere else (I don't remember). And I have compleately forgotten that I had them. :) If anyone lives in Moscow and needs them I will gladly sell them for a small sum. The books are:
1.Larisa Fast "Basic Russian. Elementary" (Student's book, Workbook+ 1 tape, Moscow, 2000)
2.Svetlana Khachaturova. Russian Express. (Moscow Linguistic Centre, 1999)
3.И.В. (Moscow, 2000) +2 tapes
To the moderators: I am sorry if this off-topic. I just don't know which other community might be interested in those books and it will be a pity to throw them away, especially the tapes.
UPD: Sorry for the comments in Russian. I have summed it all up in English here. And which Elementary Russian course do you think the best?

Date: 2006-10-25 09:44 pm (UTC)Basic Russian (elementary level) by Larisa Fast, as I said, is a very solid course. And it's in English which is good for those who are just beginning.
Одинцова's course is dedicated solely to the spoken language and it's well-printed- but it is in Russian which is a huge drawback since you can't take it without some basic knowledge of Russian.
Russian Express doesn't have any tapes, it's just a book- but it was recommended to me by a colleague who uses it.
I think Fast is now out of print (at least for the time being), but two other courses are still in. By the way, may be people will share their thoughts about the best basic Russian course?

Date: 2006-10-25 10:01 pm (UTC)Would be exciting to find out, actually- about the books. I have taught Russian once or twice in my life, in London, because there was no one around with Russian when they needed it and I was asked (actually, begged :) to- it was VERY difficult. It's much easier for me to teach Russian-speaking people foreign languages- but may be this is beacuse Russian is my native tongue, so what seems natural for me (жи-ши пиши через и) didn't seem natural to my English students. But then I never did a course in Russian As a Foreign Language (РКИ).
I will update my entry and ask :)
