My comprehension of spoken Russian is pretty terrible. Does anybody have good resources for starting out with understanding spoken Russian? Should I just dive right in to radio, or … ?

I found that I could improve my comprehension quite a bit by listening to audiobooks while following along with the text. I don't have any good suggestions as to where you can get Russian audiobooks in the US, though; I got mine through a class.

i looked at this and it was a bit confusing. i googled "russian audio books" but i am still not sure. do you know a good site in english? thank you! the idea of hearing and reading a book would help me immensely.

Go to a bookstore, like Borders, Barnes & Noble. There are plenty of Russian lessonbooks + audiotapes here. But your BEST bet is to find some Russian friends. That's what I did, and I learned a lot more than audiotapes could even teach me!

movies with subtitles in your mother-tongue are pretty useful I guess..or if the speed is too quick, songs might be helpful:) at least songs have helped me a lot with my Finnish:) the only problem is that Russian music mostly sucks - at least for my taste. *gg* There are some good bands though=)
