Відболіло і відпекло...

In a Russian translation of Iryna Bilyk's «Вітер», I came across the phrase «отболело и отпекло», which is a direct translation of the line «відболіло і відпекло» (Ukr. «від» = Rus. «от»). However, I can't find a translation for these words in either language. Could someone help, please?

отболело = перестало болеть, больше не болит
отпекло = перестало печь, больше не печет
"от" here means that the action described by the verb is no more, or even that the action can no longer be performed because there is no object for this action anymore: "отболело" - means some part of me or some concept in my mind did so much pain that it was destroyed by that pain, and therefore, there is no more pain in me. Same about "отпекло", but with the verb "печь" (bake, burn).

It is derived from болеть and печь. It means rooughly that whoever is implied "has (already) got his share of pain"

I've heard that Ukranian "печь" could meen "беспокоиться" (worry), not "печь". It's seemed logic in that context =)

From what I can tell, «пекти» (Ukrainian for «печь») is a direct translation of «печь». I think «беспокоиться» is «турбуватися» or «хвилюватися». That's at least what I've gathered from this dictionary (http://lingresua.tripod.com/online/) and Googling the two words together.

You can add от to the past neuter form of a verb, and it means to stop? Would it sound bad if one said "Перестало болеть"?

Most of the time, yes. And "перестало болеть" is also OK. But there are shades of meaning for which I think ashalynd gave a very nice explanation (see below). I.e. перестало болеть leaves some possibility that it will start hurting again in a while, and отболело implies that this part of you kind of lost sensitivity.
