A question on translation

When translating Russian adresses, does one transliterate улица as ulitsa or write out street. Also, since adresses are written differently in Russian, does one rewrite it as one would an American address (Name, Street, City, State, Zip Code, Country) or keep it as written (Country, City, region, street, name)?

You can write how you want. I mean the order of the elements of the adress: in Russian or in English style.
And you can also write улица, дом etc. in English. It makes no problem for Russian postmen.

It doesn't matter, actually. Russian post handles both types of adresses perfectly. If you're writing an address for english-speaking audience, I'd recommend using "str." and American order, so as not to make things obscure to readers.

That was one thing that really impressed me with the Russian post - they are really very good with things being printed in different alphabets/styles. I never once had a letter or package go missing. (the british post on the other hand - complete *insert favorite expletive here*)

Still, I always advised my relatives/friends to use the Russian format & abbreviations even if they used English letters.

I'm translating a business contract from Russian to English... (my first paid translation gig) that lists the adresses of all of its members, so I wanted to know how best to render the adresses.

Russian post handles both versions, so be cool about that. Most of my American correspondents normally freak out my address in any fashion imaginable, and in many that aren't imaginable as well (though the address is quite simple,) but their parcels always make it to me.

Then keep it "as is". Legally correct address is the address written according to local post rules.

afaik the adress can now be written in American-European style (Name, Street, City, State, Zip Code, Country). At least the envelopes seem so.

In Russia each post office area tends to be quite small -- rarely more than couple of neighborhoods. Thus postmen can usually remember all possible addresses in their area, so they will have little problem even if you try to invent your own way of writing up the address. ^_^

Yeah, that's right. I dont exactly know ma parents' adress and write often the wrong house number. Nevertheless all my letters are always delivered :)
