Can anyone recommend a good Russian rock group? I'd just like to get a feel for the language in terms of hearing it, rather than reading all the time.

IMHO, there are really few of them.
One might try Несчастный случай ("The Accident"). Their music is well written and performed, and the lyrics are extremely literate. And the singer's delivery is good too.

And note thatn Russian musick is different from British&American: in Russian not the music, but the lyruics is the main thing. So the lyrics can be veeery hard to understand ;)

Just to warn you: so-called 'Russian Rock' as a genre is a very primitive pop-rock music with most emphasis made on lyrics, which may vary from extremely sophisticated and high-class to excessively pompous and pointless.

I, personally, would recommend you take a look at the Tequilajazzz band - http://www.tequilajazzz.spb.ru, http://www.tequilajazzz.spb.ru/audio/150/03.mp3 - you can check it out starting with this song.


But you want the truth? If you want good Russian language, read some Russian poetry, if you want some good music - it's not the country to search.

I think "russian rock" is a nonsense, something like "chinese polka". Nevertheless, I recommend you two bads playing very lovely music:
