I don't know if this is a strange question, but I was wondering:

What are some "pet names" that couples can use with eachother in the Russian language and how do they correspond in English? (sweetie, honey, darling)

There are no generalized.
For dog, that would be Шарик, Тузик (for smaller), Рекс, Полкан, Арго (for bigger), Жучка, Лайка, Эльба (for female).
for cat, Васька, Тёмка and some other human names :)
for parrot, Кеша maybe :)

oh oh. Sorry :)
You've got answers anyway. I would add that for my ear these words sound just too sweet, maybe that's just my Personal Reality Distortion Field.

Many other variants are also possible, it's just depends on one's imagination, such as "счастье мое"(my happiness), "солнышко" (my sun) and so on )

лапушка, лапа - (sweetheart) - both words are a bit obsolete but still very personal and showing care. originally used mainly by males to females, now both variants possible, i believe.
