Feb. 21st, 2006 02:26 pmSo, my last post made me wonder: what is good contemporary music? The dance/pop stuff is junky & I love it, but it's not what I typically listen to. Usually I listen to "indie rock." What's the Russian equivalent? Any .mp3s you guys can throw at me?
ETA: To give you an idea of what I listen to, see my Last.FM profile.

Date: 2006-02-21 07:58 pm (UTC)My boyfriend has some Nautilus Pompilius. I don't much care for them...
I like Аквариум, but I have a CD of Boris Grebenshikov on his own that I absolutely love.
My boyfriend also has a CD of ДДТ...
I can't rememeber the names of the bands he usually listens to, but they're definitely more "indie rock" or new Russian folk style.

But I doubt if a foreigner can understand the lyrics and if one can enjoy these songs without understandig them.

Date: 2006-02-21 08:04 pm (UTC)Check out their main song - http://shulya.nm.ru/MORE%20AND.rar
And if you like it - some more on http://morelsy.nm.ru/sound.htm
From the recommendations above you will hardly find anything like indie, and while some bands are good (Auktyon, for example) one need an extreme language skill to understand their lyrics.

Date: 2006-02-21 08:11 pm (UTC)More&Relsy are more like what they do in Britain now (Libertines, Arctic Monkeys I'd say).
Try Auktyon (see first comment), then we can see, ;)

Russian contemporary music now includes a lot of electronic and club music. Psychodelic trance, drum and base, gabba/hardcore, house and techno.
Russian d'n'b and psy trance musicians are exteremely popular in Europe right now. Specifically psy trance and Israeli crowd.
If needed, I can produce some samples.

Enjoy!
