Hello.

Been searching online for a presentation I'm making, and not making any progress, so came back here.

I was wondering whether anyone could please tell me the russian names for all the chess pieces, because I have a suspicion they wouldn't just be a translation of the English.

Edit: Thank you for such fast replies! That's sorted now.

пешка = pawn
ладья = rook
конь = knight
слон = bishop
ферзь/королева = queen, the first is more proper in actual chess notation.
король = king

More likely, the Elephant, steered by the Vizier, came to Russia from India via Persia/Central Asia.

"Ferz" is not "vizier". It comes from Persian "farzin" which is not connected etymologically with Arabic "wazir". See here (http://www.chessvariants.org/piececlopedia.dir/ferz.html).
