I was just about to ask a question, and having to articulate my question made me think of it in a different way, and then I was able to answer my own question before asking all of you. :)

But just to keep this post relevant, here's a different question:

Does this make sense?

В среду, я хотела начинать убеждая Вас, что...
"On Wednesday, I wanted to begin by convincing you" is what I'm trying to say.

And also, how do you translate "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"?!?

...начать с убеждения вас... (looks ok, but still isn't exactly what I would say in real life)

или

...начать, убедив вас... (that means you are confident that you'll succeed)

I, personally, would say "начать с попытки убедить вас" - "begin with an attempt to convince you..."

This is not really related to the question, but how did the Beatles reach russia? Were they smuggled in? Were they well received by rebellious youths and considered something only cool kids knew about?

I was born in the end of the Beatles era, so I don't remember it myself, but what I know is that, generally speaking, the Iron Curtain was not exactly as thick and unpenetrable as it looked :)
Smuggled, yes. And then blackmarketed, and copied in hundreds of thousands of copies, first on just magnetic tape, then, since mid-1970, on compact cassettes. Basically everybody who wanted a copy, could get it either on the grass-roots level, through friends of friends of friends, or on the black market (where you could even get the original vinyl, though for an incredibly expensive price.)
