[identity profile] slashmel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
I was asked to write a composition about my daily routine, and I whilst I used "работница" to describe my occupation (because I am), I would have liked to use the Russian word for "Criminologist". Unfortunately, neither this word nor "Criminology" are included in my dictionary. Thus, now I'm posting this here, hoping someone from this community could help me.

криминолог, криминология

Also, работница is (1) way way outdated and (2) isn't really descriptive. It just means “(female) worker”.

I'm a Crim major, and my russian teacher seemed completely familiar with the term "криминология"

Excuse me for stupid question. What (who) is a Crim major? (I don't know even a CrimE major)

not crime, crim, being short for criminology. It is the study of crime, crime victoms, criminals, corrections, and criminal behaviors.

It is a common major for those wanting to go into law enforcement.

Криминология is used widely, but, while криминолог is no doubt more correct, криминалист is the word in use - in press, TV etc.

"Криминалист" has a different meaning, IMHO.

работница is a female (factory) worker and, as people has been pointing out, somewhat outdated and not fitting (definitely meaning physical work)

домработница (short for домашняя работница - cleaner/housekeeper) is still used though
