Can anyone translate the word "воспроизводящуюся" for me? I can't find it in the dictionary.

Here is the context: По ходу, исследования я выявляю устойчивую воспроизводящуюся форму саморепрезентации, связанную с представлениями о работе над собой и о самоутверждении в коллективистском ключе.

[If anyone wants to completely translate that sentence, that would also be greatly appreciated. It's from an article in Ab Imperio, which I have to read and review for class.]

Well, I don't know the word, but one of my dictionaries gives the following meanings:

1. be reproduced; (возникать вновь) repeat, recur
2. (в памяти) recur (to one's mind), come back (to one's memory, to smb.)
3. (повторять) repeat (d.)
4. (воссоздавать) render (d.)
5. (перепечатывать) reprint (d.)

self-recurring. Воспроизводящуюся mean воспроизводящую себя, "ся" is a grammatical shortcut for "себя".

And yeah, I know that means there is too many 'selves' there. What do you want from a scientific or pseudo-scientific text? Gods forbid these guys talk like normal people EVAR!

This is an article on "subjectivity"; therefore, the word "discursive" appears waaaaaay too many times for my liking.

I'd say that in this context it means 'one which can be reproduced (at will)' or 'one which is observed again and again'. Meaning that it's not a single situation but a scientific fact :)

Look at: "воспроизвести результат эксперимента" -> "воспроизводящийся результат", i.e. the result which can be repeated.

But in the given sentence the langugage is crappy. 'Pseudo-scientific'.

It wasn't assigned for a Russian class, it's for a graduate Soviet History seminar. I'm reading other articles written in English by the same scholar for my final paper. This article is his response to Russian scholars' critiques of his work.

it's a participle. break it down:

воспроизводя
and
щуюся

when you see "щу" like that it's a dead giveaway. That leaves vosproizvod-. The basic root is "vodit'". Then you have a ton of prefixes. so try looking up "vosproizvodit'" :)

I love participles and verbal adverbs. They're like the one part of Russian I can mostly handle. :)

Oh dear! Where did you find such a horrible text? :) I assure you, this is not Russian! :) This is a kind of scientific slang--
Being a proof-reader, I speak Russian very well, but I can hardly catch the meaning of this sentence. Can't you choose a more interesting article? :)))

P.S. Воспроизводящуюся is a participle of the verb to reproduce.

It's an article on "Soviet subjectivity" in the historical journal Ab Imperio. It's a translation of an article that was originally written in German, I believe.

and what exactly is wrong with this phrase grammatically or structurally? why is it not Russian? failure to understand a bunch of foreign words doesn't mean the sentence is foreign, even based on your alleged experience.

That was just a joke. Certainly, it's Russian. And certainly I understand these foreign words.
I meant that lots of foreign words in one sentence made it difficult to understand even for Russians. But I repeat once more, that was nothing but a joke. Maybe not a good one. Then sorry.

P.S. Again, sorry for mistakes. I understand English well, but I haven't spoken it for so long!
