Google just assumed you've forgot to change the language on your keyboard, as typing "babelfish" when Russian is on gives exactly "ифиудашыр".


BTW, it didn't work when I tried...

Hm. Probably it works for some words only. For example, "сщккусешщт" doesn't return any clue at all. In contrast to that, Yandex understands and corrects such mistakes, e.g. bcghfdktybt (http://www.yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=bcghfdktybt&stype=www).
