hi

фрей -- the context is not very polite, so I thought I'll put it under the cut, just in case

thanks,
t.

thanks everyone for your suggestions for this possibly non-existent mystery word
I will try to investigate it further (perhaps the text contains a typo? I'll try to find the original source) but some of the suggestions proposed by you made sense

thanks,
t.

There's no such word in Russian, AFAIK. Could be a distorted slang form of some English or German word, like "free" or "frei".

Or a really bastardized "фраер". That's the only thing I can think of.

1) Could be reference to someone with last name Фрей?
2) Maybe typo for "Фрейд" (Zigmund Freid) ?!

Perhaps it's "фриц" - a slang word for Germans in WWII, I think the corresponding British word is "Jerry"

фрей

May be it's from yiddish? But I don't know the exact meaning.

"...Наш страрый добрый фрей,
То есть Теодор..."

"... Our good old frei,
Named Theodor..."

As sang M.Touretsky's Choir in the song "7-40" 8-))

идем в Яндекс и ищем слово 'Фрей' -

судя по тому, что фрей этот "недобитый", похоже это то же, что "фриц".

I would dearly love to remind that the working language of this community is English. Many Russian learners here are in a very early stage of their study, and thus cannot comprehend your comment, however useful it is. If you comment or post in Russian, you are expected to provide an English translation as well (it is in the community rules.)
