I am purchasing a puppy from Moscow and would like to keep the dogs name but I have no idea what it means. The name is Edelveys. I am guessing that it is something like Edelweiss but I have no real clue. thanks for any help.

Is it a German Shepherd or something?

Yes. :) But I may be biased. Double-check everything.

You will want to check quarentine & vaccination requirements. How will said animal be transported? Will someone be travelling with it?

Moving an animal from one country to another is more difficult than moving people.

Yes, it's not fair or humane to put that much stress on an animal!!

Does it sound like a bad idea? Yes, I think it's a horrible idea. AKC (American Kennel Club) in Russia? Keyword being American? By the way, paying escrow is not a guaranteed safety. There are tons of scams out there - think about it, they even trick men into believing they will marry a Russian women who will cook, clean, raise children, etc... The "perfect" wife, which "can't" be found in the USA... But actually, there's no woman in the first place... Just some very clever guy on the other end. Unless this dog was coming from my best friend (not even an "e-best friend" but someone I've met with in person), who was a world reknown dog breeder, I would never order a dog. Something just doesn't sound right with that situation.

I don't think it's dangerous or something to buy a dog in Russia, but it would be much better anyway to take a puppy from a "homeless animal" centre in the city or town where you live. I don't know what's the English for, in Russian we call it "приют для бездомных животных". Then you can save at least one life and the dog would be grateful to you.

Oh, I don't think buying a dog from Russia is *dangerous*... Dogs in Russia should be, essentially, the same as dogs in the USA. But to buy a dog and have them ship it to the USA... Does that sound sensible at all???

Yes, I TOTALLY agree with the adopting a homeless pet point you made.... In American English, it's called "humane society" or "animal shelter", although it may have different names in different areas.
