Today is the two-year anniversary of the two planes crashing into New York City’s World Trade Centers.

I think I remember reading that a French paper's headline, after 9-11, was "Today, we are all Americans." Except, in French. Why are we so mean to the French?

Thank you, Russians. =)

We’re mean to the French because as much as we deny it, we still carry on the prejudices of the British. ;)

We USED to consider them our younger siblings, in terms of government. L'Enfant Plaza in D.C. serves as testament to that, among many, many other things.

Of course, the French are way more politically active than Americans now, anyway, so we must be the stupid older siblings. =)

Politically. I mean, how old is their latest Republic? What do they call it? Oh yeah, the fifth one. =D

Yes. All French are not nice, and all Americans are fat slobs. All Russians and Chinese are communists. African Americans steal things and Hispanic ones are lazy.

Here's a little bit of [unwelcome] advice for you: grab the first dictionary you can lay your hands on, leaf through to the letter I and read about the literary device called irony. It's guaranteed to be such an eye-opener I couldn't be more thrilled for you! Learning things is such fun don't you think?

This is not the forum for unwelcome advice. If you care to argue, send it through email.

What's your point?

You are banned. Racism is not welcome here, nor are people who think that it's acceptable to make those kinds of statements. If you would like to discuss your banning, you may email me at my LiveJournal address; however, it is unlikely that I will change my mind.

I've just spent two weeks near Angouleme and I can assure you the French are amongst the most polite and helpful people I've met. Prejudice is just that. There's no room for it in a thinking person's mind.

Perhaps because you can speak French really well.

If you care to argue, email me. This is not the journal community for such things. I'm not being prejudice. I'm just stating common circulated opinion.

"I'm just stating common circulated opinion." - Which is precisely what prejudice is. Judging people based on stereotypes. It's not a question of arguing, but if you post such comments about nationalities in a public journal, you must expect reactions to it. I think Farraige's point above was that Mananas was being ironic in his/her comment and listing other silly stereotypes. By the way, I speak almost no French and the French people I met were keen to help whenever I needed it.

Anyway, you're right this is not the place to continue such a debate so I'll leave it there.

Of course I expect reactions. I get negative reactions even to Russian language advice I give, because I know one cannot please 1130 members in one shot. Both comments from Farraige and Mananas fell into my inbox. I cannot be sure to whom the sarcasm of irony was being said, but I answered. You have no email listed so either use mine, or have enough said.

btw, I notice you're British, and I don't see you reacting to this comment above: We're mean to the French because as much as we deny it, we still carry on the prejudices of the British. ;) Should I ask if you still have a valid point?

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but people die every day, all over the world, and many of those die violent deaths, much more than 6,000 people daily. Exactly why those who died in WTC are better than all the other people and why does it have to be mentioned in this community anyway?

A moment of silence for 11 september.

P.S. Для этого сообщества было бы логично помянуть не только 11 сентября, но и третье -- день трагической развязки теракта в Беслане. Почему-то о нём ни слова.
