deferral

Can anyone tell me how you would refer to academic deferral in Russian? Is the verb otsrochivat' / otsrochit' the right one to use, or is there another expression or set phrase that makes more sense? (I'm trying to get across that I deferred my 3rd year/ year abroad for financial reasons, and not sure that I'm making any sense!)

If it was officially and IF you are a woman, you can say "взяла академический отпуск с {дата1} по {дата2}" (Pres. "беру академический отпуск" Fut. "возьму академический отпуск").

А man should say "взял академический отпуск" referring to the past.

You can also say "находился m./находилась f. в академическом отпуске", referring to the past.
