[identity profile] hopeinagpa.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
Wait wait! I just realized that my idea of [livejournal.com profile] ladybirdsleeps 's idea has some technical difficulties. I think I had in mind for people with Russian practice journals to join this community, and then people who want to read the entries would load the friends' page of the community--which means that to get these entries to show up on your own LJ friends' page, you would have to...actually, the problem is, I don't know what you have to do, or whether you can even do that.

I think [livejournal.com profile] wolfie_18 had in mind for users to join the community and post their entries directly on the community page, which makes sense. However, doing that gets rid of the idea of each person actually having a separate Russian journal, which, though convenient because you don't have to create another journal, makes it more difficult for each individual to keep record of their own entries. Personally, I really prefer the benefits of having my own separate journal, as it's easier for me to see my entries only and therefore remind myself of what corrections have been made to my writing.

Help!

Starting a community (as [livejournal.com profile] ladybirdsleeps suggested) for people with journals in which they write solely in Russian for the purpose of language practice, sounds like a good idea. That way, it will be more convenient for readers, as they only have to add the community to read everyone's entries on their friends' page instead of adding each individual user.

So, how many people have/will create journals in which they will, and would be willing to join such a community?

Does anyone have suggestions for a name for this type of community? Suggestions for other guidelines for the community?

I would definitely create a Russian practice journal. As it stands, I only occasionally write in my English-language journal in Russian, but if I had a separate one, it would probably force me to write in Russian more often.

That sounds like an excellent idea! This way, one also gets the benefit of just having to use one journal and you can write your Russian ones through the community and anything personal can just be updated normally. I'd really join, sounds fantastic. Great idea! (again)

I like the idea, and I would definitely join, but probably not use it often, since I have several Russian speakers on my LJ's friends page, and they help me enough with what little Russian I write. But reading others' practice posts and corrections will likewise assist in my education. I do think keeping separate journals is a hassle. I like the universal idea.

Thanks.
