What is the equivalent of "I miss..." in Russian, of someone/thing that is of sentimental value to you, but whom/which you haven't seen or had in a while? I asked my Russian friend, who's been living in Canada for almost ten years, and all she could think of at the time was "Мне не хватит..."

"Мне не хватает", "Я скучаю".

Just remember in addition if you're going to say "you," you have to include по. Я по тебе скучаю. Well, if you're going to say pretty much anything else. Я по Америке скучаю, so on and so forth.

It's funny, but "я по Америке скучаю" sounds unnatural. Better say "я скучаю по Америке". But "я по тебе/нему/... скучаю" is quite alright. "Я скучаю по тебе/нему/..." is equally possible.

I would dearly love to remind that 1. the working language of this community is English, and 2. that, according to the community rules (http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=learn_russian), everybody is asked to keep potentially offensive language to himself.

"First post" is offensive? Or does Fi mean something naughty?

It's "Нах" which is offensive.

This expression is just used for stress. Much like "f***ing", it doesn't mean anything specific.

It depends on the context. For example, imagine a dialog like this:

1st person. — Мне не нравится Америка. (I don't like America)
2nd person. — А я по Америке скучаю. (But I miss America).

And there such word order is pretty natural.

This does not exactly means "first post," it is formed by the word "first" and a part of an obscene expression.
