Has anyone here read "A Clockwork Orange" (Механический Апельсин) in Russian? I just wanted to know if you did, how was the aesthetic value of the language of the novel depreciated since in his original book in English it had included Russian and such words as "horrorshow" was what made the book (for me, at least) fantastic.

That words are written in latin transcription there, for example: Я пил Moloko.

And i read another translation: the translator used english words instead of russian ones! I understand his idea, but don't like it. The things like "Я пил Moloko" look more funny and more fanastic even for Russians.

Hee! I was in my first quarter of Russian language study when I picked up A Clockwork Orange. It was a good read, but very slow going for me -- every time I found one of those slang words with Russian-sounding roots (such as "droogies") I'd spell out the word in Cyrillic, look up the root in my словарь, and try to figure out what the slang word meant.

It was only when I reached the end of the book that I discovered that there was an appendix that defined the slang terms. Aarghh!

There's different translations, and the movie's translation is different than the book's.
