Out of curiousity, what's up with the Хватит Путина thing that's going on today, apparently?

Some people are sick and tired of their president and feel like thay had enough of him. I'd say it's a very natural kind of feeling. :)

well, you consider this natural just because of Dubya, I think =)

George-W-Mr-I-Can-Speak-English-Now-Bush, who else? =)

Um, no. I'm not anti-Bush per se, although I disagree with what he's doing a lot. I think Carry would have been worse. And I'm not a citizen here - yet. :)

But Mr. Putin buggers the hell out of me, yep. I can sympatize.

Each and every Putin's alternative will kill Russia as a whole.
CIA prognosis for 2015 is that Russia will decompose into several smaller states. D'ya get the feeling? =)
I'm not a citizen as well, but I hate Bush, because now we (as many other scientists) are completely out of money for research, while The Holy Moron is crusading the Unclean Middle East.

Yep, that's one of my grievances. Along with his anti-abortion politic, not allowing same-sex marriages and some others. Gah. At the same time, I want to retch each time I hear the usual democratic babble. They should have a third party for people like me. :)

And don't start me on Iraq. I have a very un-politically-correct opinion about what a war in this region should look like. And it doesn't include all this nonsense about building a democracy. He could just as well try to build a bungalo on the North Pole.

And, by the way, yes, I think Russia as it is now is a non-vital formation. It'll go caboom big time if it'll continue like that. To have several smaller states would be much safer.

Doh! It's so patriotic of you. It'd be much safer for the world to divide US into several states as well - say, New California Republic, United States of NewYork, and Redneckland.
Oh yeah, I dont even begin to imagine, how much safer that would be.

Patriotic? Hardly. I'm Ukrainian. :) Don't owe any patriotism whatsoever to Russia.

I'm Ukrainian as well.
But both of us were born in the same country, I suppose ;)

Honestly, I think there’s a significant chance that will happen within 50 or 75 years. (And George W. Bush seems to be doing everything he can to increase that likelihood.)
Oh yeah, I dont even begin to imagine, how much safer that would be.
I confess that the idea of Texas and Alabama with nuclear weapons frightens me.

Come on, man, I was just kidding. US is a very strong country, and govenment knows all the tricks - they'll make sure States will live as a whole long enough.
And, furthermore, I don't have any problem with that - I admire US the way they are. I just want US be a little more socialistic to their own people, and a little less agressive towards all the other world =)
Considering nukes and Texas - dude, noone should leave'em anything more serious than a truck 8)

Socialistic. Yep. That's usually where I get nauseated with democrats. :)

Well, it's definitely much better when a public high school senior is not much different from a tribal. When poverty level is just enough to refuel Military Force with fresh meat. Of course, no fucking hippie will go risk his arse in the army. Not many are willing to risk their lives, if they have something to eat and a place to live.
Can you come up with one decent reason why can't US be like any other European country? Say, Germany, France, England, etc. Do you know how different does it feel to listen to a lower-class Swiss and to American redneck?
Oh, whatever.

Date: 2005-04-04 05:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ars-longa.livejournal.com
Yes, I know. I also know that Swiss is about as different from the States as they both from Iraq.

Don't try to compare things that aren't meant to be compaired.

"If a man is not a socialist by the time he is 20, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is 40, he has no brain." (c) Churchill or Clemenceau, whatever.

Date: 2005-04-04 05:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apredeus.livejournal.com
Well, I would rather say Switzerland is as different from US, as US from Iraq, hehe.

About this quote... It's Churchill, all right. But you don't expect the quote to be universal law, do you? In case of States this behaviour line is plain dangerous - dangerous to all the world, especially to some particular regions where I happen to be born.

And yet, you claim - they aren't meant to be compaired. I suppose that means US have strengh to kick ass and they have to use it, nothing else.
This is totally logical, but it's also sad. And can lead to terrible consequences as well. Nuclear End-Of-The-World is one to mention.

I know you were kidding, but I wasn’t. I won’t be surprised if the US lasts another couple hundred years, but I also won’t be surprised if it doesn’t last another 50. The centralization of power that is going on now is actually a huge problem, because it makes the government (and the national culture) rigid and inflexible. There are all sorts of very large tensions in the US at the moment. The "red-state vs. blue-state" one is a big one and is the one you hear about (although it’s really much more complicated than that), but there are lots of other ones as well, such as the tensions between the federal government (which is centralizing power quite a lot, but also trying to put additional responsibilities on state and local governements without giving them the authority or funding to meet those responsibilities, as a way of shifting blame) and the states.

If you’re interested in reading about regional differences within the US (more from a cultural than a political perspective), an excellent book is Albion’s Seed: Four British Folkways in America, by David Hackett Fisher.

about them trucks - damn, man, I know what I talking about =)
And thanks, I'll check the book.

"Хватит Путина" (Enough of Putin) is the name of today's meeting, organized by Оборона (The Defence) organization
So far the country is still weak, fa@#ts like these are tryng to tear their piece of the pie - and in the end organize something like Ukrainian "orange revolution" in Russia.
I can only hope they will all fail in most miserable way.
