How would one translate the "for" in "Thanks for helping me with my homework!" or "Thanks for NOTHING?"

And just checking, it's acceptable to use both "Я умнее чем ты" and "Я умнее тебя?" And if you wanted to say "I'm smarter than you think," would that be "Я умнее чем ты думаешь?"

"Спасибо за ..."

"Я умнее тебя" sounds better, but the other form is acceptable, just awkward.

And if you wanted to say "I'm smarter than you think," would that be "Я умнее чем ты думаешь?"

Yup.

Only this way: Спасибо за то, что Вы меня подобрали.

Or simply "Спасибо, что подобрали".

I would say "Спасибо, что подвезли."

You can't say "Thanks for NOTHING" in Russian. What does "Thanks for NOTHING" mean exactly?

"Thanks for nothing" is a sarcastic expression, used in the sort of contexts where one just went through something difficult without help, and is rather upset that the person they're talking about didn't help them, or were some kind of obstruction. At least, that's how I hear it used.

So, that expression does not really thank anybody. Then you have to just say it literally: "жаль, что ты не помог" (pity, that you did not help) or something like that.

OTOH, if you did want to thank the other person, even if they did nothing, then you would say "Спасибо, хотя и не за что"

You can use "Ну, спасибо" , but intonation is important.

To obtain "posting access" you have to join the community. It's open, everybody is welcomed on a simple "behave-yourself" basis, and the only thing you have to do is to go to community userinfo and click "join."

Normally we either write in actual Russian, which doesn't use Latin letters, or, in case one has trouble typing in Cyrillics, we substitute Cyrillics with Latin letters rather than trying to construct thise pseudo-phonetical forms which are, anyway, miles away from the actual Russian phonetics.

What you've tried to write would be either
Я говорю очень плохо, и мне нужна практика,
or
Ya govoryu ochen' ploho, i mne nuzhna praktika.

The later case is so-called Translit. There are certain rules of it (ж=zh, ы=y etc.)

"Thanks for NOTHING" - I suppose, you can say "Спасибо, что не помог", it sounds ironic...
