Is there ever any rule as to when to use д over g? I myself am used to writing g, but I was just wondering if there would ever be any situation in where a Russian would say "why are you writing it like that?" or "what???" When and where is д used more frequently? EDIT: That д (script) is actually supposed to look like an inverted б, but I don't know why it's not showing up.

Isn't the g cursive?

No, it isn't
More than that - in lowercase form it could be either descender or ascender, depending on what writer prefers

is a tiny bit old-fashioned and decorationalist, and children in first grade are taught to write it as g, but ultimately it's a question of personal preference.

No difference. just a matter of habit.

I always write instead of g. It looks pretty ;)

BTW, по английски "d" так же выглядит, как перевёрнутая "b", и никаких вопросов не возникает. ;).

When I was 20, I just quit writing д as g and started to use that other form, but returned to g after I turned 25, with no significant cause for either change :))

in italics: only "d"

BTW, does anyone know why the italic version is "d" (and not д)? (maybe it dates back to the time when "d" was frequently used in had-writing, see e.g. old writers' drafts)
