The book I have shows a chart for conjugating E-type verbs in the present in this lovely little chart:

(Well, at least this is my replication of it)

Now.. my question is:
How does one determine which ending to use?! And well, this question applies to the 2nd conjugation verbs, too. I really need this cleared up, thanks.

As for the ет vs. ёт, question... it varies from verb to verb. Generally the dictionary shows it (i.e. жить, живу, живёшь)... for у vs. ю, I think it's mainly consonant stem vs. vowel stem.

For example, жить has a consonant stem for conjugation (жив-), whereas думать has a vowel stem (дума-)... жив- gets the у, дума- gets the ю.

That's pretty much what I learned. After a while I got a feel for what "sounds" right, which has made Russian spelling and conjugation much easier.
