Hi, guys. This community has helped me a lot and I was hoping that I might be able to give something back with this.

Using the keyboard layout designer for Windows XP, I made a keyboard layout for the Cyrillic alphabet that's more phonetic to the QWERTY keyboard... I have it uploaded on my server if you guys want it...

notation is key(shift+key)
`(~) = щ(Щ)
Number keys are only different in that 3 + shift isn't #, it's №.
-(_) = ё(Ё)
=(+) = э(Э)
q(Q) = я(Я)
w(W) = ш(Ш)
e(E) = е(Е)
r(R) = р(Р)
t(T) = т(Т)
y(Y) = ы(Ы)
u(U) = у(У)
i(I) = и(И)
o(O) = о(О)
p(P) = п(П)
[({) = ж(Ж)
](}) = ю(Ю)
...then, for the hard and soft signs, it gets kinda tricky.
Since I figure that capitalizing the hard and soft signs isn't that frequent, I set it up like so:
\(|) = ь(ъ) but, if you need to capitalize them, hold down control, and \(|) = Ь(Ъ)
a(A) = а(А)
s(S) = с(С)
d(D) = д(Д)
f(F) = ф(Ф)
g(G) = г(Г)
h(H) = х(Х)
j(J) = й(Й)
k(K) = к(К)
l(L) = л(Л)
z(Z) = з(З)
x(X) = ц(Ц)
c(C) = ч(Ч)
v(V) = в(В)
b(B) = б(Б)
n(N) = н(Н)
m(M) = м(М)
Now, there were problems with fitting a 33-letter alphabet onto a 26-letter keyboard, so I took out the `, -, =, [, ], and / keys... but should you need any of them (except for the \ key), you can just hold down Ctrl and they'll show up... i.e. `+ctrl = `, `+ctrl+shift = ~.
Also, 3 + shift + ctrl = #.
Any keys not talked about (' , . ? and all the rest) are left the same.

Hopefully this will help some of you!

EDIT: ah, almost forgot! You can get the package from http://www.benson-family.org/apollotiger/RPK.zip

EDIT: aha... uhm... I also fixed it because I ended up putting in я twice...

Thanks! But...

Appropriate Russian phrases would be: открыл Америку and изобрёл велосипед. :-)

Take a look at what (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaulGor/) a guy named Paul Gorodyansky has put together. Very useful, IMHO.
