I had my first ever formal class in Russian tonight. It was really exciting as I have always been interested in studying this language. Anyway, I'm new to the community and I just wanted to say hi.

I've just started Russian 101 myself. I love the professor and I am so intrigued by the language and the people. We are having a "Russian Semester" at our university. The entire semester is devoted to seminars by guest speakers on Russian culture, politics, art, films, etc. The theatre department is producing Chekov plays as it's first presentation for the fall. In December we are going to Kansas City for a concert by the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. I am very excited about all of this. It all started with meeting a girl from Samara on-line in early May. After looking for information about Russia on the Internet to better understand my friend, I have fell in love with all things Russian!

There was a girl in my 3rd grade class who came from Russia. Since then I've been interested in the language and all that neat stuff ... and that's when I kinda started trying to teach myself. I tried to communicate with her as she knew very little English. I love languages, but Russian is definitely my biggest fascination right now. I really hope I learn a lot this year ... and I hope the same for you.

Hi, welcome to the community. I've enrolled on a Russian course (here in London) and won't be starting for at least another month, but I'm looking forward to it. I've taught myself a little Russian already, but I always believe that attending classes is a good way to use Russian and get feedback.
