I have AOL. I cannot read Cyrillic in instant messages and AOL technical support is no help.

-I have Cyrillic selected as a font in my "Regional and Language Options".

-I'm using a font that has Cyrillic characters (Arial).

Does anyone know how I can read Cyrillic in instant messages?

Thanks!

I know MSN Messenger allows you to use Cyrillic. That's where I always do my conversing with some of my Russian friends. They also do Polish which is a big plus for me and all other Slavic languages.

when i was in russia i saw people using aim at an internet cafe. i have no idea how they got it to work or even if they were using cyrillic or just typing phonetically. just thought i'd mention it.

You change it by setting the Font to Cyrillic in the Font section of the Preferences window. As long as you have it enabled on your keyboard, you can type in Cyrillic till the cows come home. And you don't have to keep changing it back and when you want to type to your friends in English. Just switch the keyboard settings as you normally would, say, if you were posting in this community.

Download Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/) and your covered. Then you can delete the crappy aim, msn, and icq messenger programs off your computer and use them all in one with this.

Have you gotten Cyrillic to work in Trillian? I've tried but been unsuccessful.

I've got.
Try changing language for non-Unicode programs to "Russian"
(Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Advanced)
Hope it helps.

I had a problem with Cyrillic on Trillian.

In messages sent from ICQ Lite (build # 1103, Russian) to Trillian (don't remember version), all Russian letters were changed into squares. In opposite direction, all messages arrived OK.

P.S. Trillian was installed on Win 98 SE Russian.

Weird.
I have Trillian, and I have an opposite problem: I can see all the received mesages, but sometimes people can't see what I've typed. I think the cause is non-Unicode-friendly Windows 98.

Trillian never worked for me. I didn't like it very much. My roommate had Trillian, and he got rid of it, too. I know for a fact that Cyrillic works in Yahoo Messenger. I do it all the time

AIM in particular and AOL in general are not Cyrillc-friendly, and neither is (was?) Unicode-friendly the late Win98. W2k or XP + ICQ or Yahoo or MSN = works properly.

My netscape AIM works with cyrillic letters. You can try to download that. But ICQ is most popular in Europe...I think.

Miranda IM (http://www.miranda-im.org) is pretty good messenger. It supports MSN, Jabber, ICQ, AIM, YIM (via plugins), so you can use several networks simultaneously.
