You guys helped a lot in this post. I just want to clarify--
жить - imperfect
живи - singular imperative. a command ?

Used alone, as a statement, is живи correct ? As in, you're driving down the street and you see a sign on the road that says живи.

You may use Живи! as a command or a request. For example Live, please! - живи, пожалуйста!

Haha, that's an interesting statement. I for one would have thought that something along the lines of прекращай or оставайся would be seen along the road. Come to think of it, for those who live in Russia, what do they have on the stop signs? Is it a word or just a red circle with a horizontal line through the center like the French?

Живи is singular imperative: like, live on!
жить is just infinitive form (to live.)

You can surely use "живи" as a statement. Imagine that somebody catches a fish and then throws it back to the water saying "живи".
