There are very few Russian techno songs that I will sing along with and not get tired of. For the most part, they sound the same. I'm on a hunt to find more Russian or Ukrainian rock music.
Being in a foreign language, especially one that I have any hope of understanding, somehow makes virtually any type of music okay! People think my prejudice against English is irrational, but they're just weird.
I am the same way :)! The reason is probably because other than it sounding appealing and different is because we either don't understand the lyrics completely or like they would sound in English. Even though after reading through the translations or understanding words myself, they all end up somewhat simple (just as English :\), but we like it better anyway ^^
I read somewhere (I think it was "Making Sense of Japanese," which is a much better book than the title suggests): "Be careful not to confuse the feeling of having read a good piece of writing with the feeling of having been able to read something in Japanese." My appreciation for writing has been dulled terribly by the horrible pretentious literature classes they keep making me take, so I think for me it's mostly the latter ^_^
Here here! Although there are certain genres of music that are accentuated by certain languages, i.e. a genre for a language.
E.g. Your techno to Russian dealie (especially Руки вверх's "Крошка Моя") Any love song/pop thing to Italian (Gianluca Grignani) Any new age/fantasy thing to Japanese (like those theme songs on Adult Swim, Inyuasha) Any rock to Russian/English
I'm afraid to say that hardly anything sounds good in French unless it's slow. Like Jacques Brel or Francis Cabrel.
