Has anyone ever seen the movie ‘The Cuckoo’ (Кукушка)? It's really good and also very interesting for people who are into languages. It's a completely trilingual movie, in Finnish, Russian, and Saami. I saw it about a month or two ago and really enjoyed it. What are some other good Russian movies? Also, has Анна Каренина ever been made into a movie?

из относительно свежего.

We watched quite a few movies in my Russian class. I must say however that "Burnt by the Sun" and "Brother" weret wo of my favorites. These are both contemporary movies, one set in the time and rise of Stalin and the other modern day umm, Moscow or Petersburg I can't remember which. Two thumbs up though.

I just want to second that.
If you liked 2001, see "Solyaris." There was some recent flop based on it (with George Clooney) but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.

In fact, the German speech is also heard in the beginning of "The Cuckoo".

I recommend that you see "Stalker", "Solaris" and "Andrei Rublev" by Tarkovsky.

and some recent ones with Сергей Бодров:
