Hi :) Just a quick note to introduce myself and ask a question. My name's Summer, I'm 23, and I live in Alaska. Spent a total of about 5 years as a full time student aid, and later, long-term-substitute kindergarten teacher at the small Russian Old Believer near my hometown. I took 2 years of high school Russian while I was in jr. high, before I went to be a student aid at Beryozova. My Russian's a little rusty; I've been out of the loop a year or two. But that's why I'm here. Hopefully I won't lose much more of it. :)
As a side note, what do I need to do to be able to type on LJ in Russian? Something fairly simple, I hope. :)
Sincerely,
Summer
p.s. (I'll also probably sign sometimes as Lyeta, which is what the kids at the Russian school called me. I'm told that's not linguistically correct but the kids got a kick out of it, so that's what I go by. :) )

Hi!
if you have an OS like Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional on ypur PC, you should have configurable settings in your system that supports International alphabets and Russian between them. It's easy to configure. Finally you will be able to type in Cyrillic (Windows-1251 Code table)

Good luck

Wow, I didn't know, that there're still communities of Old Believers at Alaska. Amazing.

Lyeta is linguistacally correct, especially from kids point of view :-)
Lyeta sounds feminine instead of neuter Lyeto :-)

If you can read Cyrillic then the international fonts are already installed. Then you may need a transliterator like www.translit.ru to type in Cyrillic. Alternatively, you may open Start > Control Panel > Languages and Local Standards (or smth like that) > Languages and Text Input > Add Language > Cyrillic.
