I have a few quick questions! :)

How would you say "I was born in Hawaii."

Would it be... Я родилась в Гавайи... or something I know when you say IN or speak of a location you have to change the ending of the location. like Оттава-Оттаве.. I'm not sure how to change Hawaii..

Any help? :)

Would you read it as "Не жалей"? And can it stand on its on, or do you have to say it like.. "Ты не жалей"? And it does translate to "Do not regret", correct?

1. Я родилась на Гаваях Or Я родилась на Гавайских островах (this one is more formal.) All islands and island countries in Russian (except Greenland, Japan, Great Britain, and Ireland) require на+prepositional: на Кипре, на Мадагаскаре, на Барбадосе, на Сейшелах, на Гаваях.

2. Reading correct. Stands on its own all right. Translation correct.

Просто по-английски пишется Hawaii, а не Hawai. +великий и могучий русский язык говорит нам о необходимости "Й"..)

If you wonder why is everyone pointing out "на" as the preposition for Hawaii: well, it's because the Hawaii're referred to as islands by default (when no additional definiton is there) in Russian.

It's true for most islands and peninsulas.
Madagaskar is the case, for example.
While Iceland or Greenland (some might call these islands) are not, they seem to have country name dominating by default and people are born in Iceland as in "в Исландии".

"In Ukraine" comes to mind — it translates into "на Украине" and is an exception.

"Do not regret"
or
"Do not be greedy"
or
"Be hard (they do not deserve your compassion)"
it can only be understood in context.

You can translate "do not regret" as "не сожалей". It is correct, but heavy.

I am very sorry, but "you can't understand" because you're too young to know that only 25 years ago both versions were regarded correct, while 50 years ago the old form - Гаваи - was the only correct version :) I'm just a bit older -- older enough to remember the situation when both Гаваи and Гавайи were OK.
And I'm not the only one: note that both versions are used on, for instance, Russian Hawaii (http://www.russian-hawaii.ru/) site.
