Forgive me if this is an inappropriate question, but I am interested in studying Russian in Russia... and I'm looking for good reputable programs to do so. Does anyone have any information on this or could perhaps point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I did the School for International Training program, it's a semester long and involves a lot of cultural & historical education as well. Not sure what you are looking for, but if you want a study abroad program and don't speak Russian very well I would strongly recommend it. (It's also good if you do speak it well, but there are lots of programs for intermediate & advanced students and not very many for beginners.)

It was a little difficult at times because the teachers rotate and the class size can vary every week. I heard some complaints about the administration too but I enjoyed myself so I don't know.

Ah. See this was really interesting because I was assuming there would be other younger Americans like me (I'm 24) but really most of the people came from Germany or Switzerland (makes sense as it is a Swiss school.) There was a wide range of ages. Both girls I hung out with were 17, one was from San Francisco and the other Vienna. In my class, there were 2 older men, one in his 70s and one in his 40s from Switzerland, one younger man from France, one girl my age from Germany and later there were a few more students who were younger and older. I went in the summer when Europeans tend to take their vacation so a lot of older people came to study and to relax and there were also a couple people who were sent by their work place to improve their language skills.

Hi, I would recommend the Smolny Institute in St. Petersburg. I have a friend from Italy who studied there for a year and he was satisfied with the quality of studying and after all could speak Russian very well(he started with no preliminary knowledge). I found there site, may be it will be useful for you http://www.smolny.org/bard-smolny/alumni/testimonials.shtml
