The order of words in russian seems to be one of the world's biggest mysteries. Is there any difference between these two?

дверь Закрой!

the first sentence may be neutral, while the second one sounds irritated to me. but i wouldn't dare make any rule out of it.

I would say, there can be a difference, but not in all cases. You can use both as a simple request to close the door, but you also can use the second with special intonation, when you are annoyed.

voice inflexion matters here rather than the order of words.
However, the latter phrase is voiced rude in more cases than the first one.

The second is not neutral, that's what makes difference. It's angry, irritated, or just plain rude -- anything but polite.

Context-dependent inversion is not exactly the word order the initial poster was asking about. Speaking of this, almost any Russian sentence can be inverted (and often in more than one way,) depending on the context -- which really makes Russian word order a b**** for non-native learners. What I was trying to emphasize was context-independent word order.

Not sure about that. My impression is that the initial poster is trying to get as much info on the subject as possible, which covers all the cases context-dependent or otherwise.

Difference is just in accents. Neutral will be without accents at all, "закрой дверь" is more simply to say so.
Second value ("дверь закрой") without accents sounds for me as "do it now, [i have to say something urgently only for u] ..just my association )
