Thanks so much for all your help on the last post, I found a few more questions but I'm not sure what some of the answers are.

I'm curious about #3. I notice everybody is choosing "a".

I always thought that "давно" meant "a long time ago", which is different than saying "for a long time." Of course, if that were true, I would think you would really have to say, "Иван давно жил в Москве."

Wouldn't "долго" be the best word in this case? I'm not sure what the difference is between "долго" and "надолго", come to think about it.

I don't know, I'm still learning this stuff.

There's nothing wrong with Иван живёт в Москве давно. Давно means both "long ago" and "for a long time," though the 2nd meaning is a bit more rare in use.

If the meaning "for a long time" is more rare, then I'm wondering why everybody is choosing "давно" as the correct answer.

The intended meaning of the sentence seems to be:

"Ivan has been living in Moscow for a long time."

-not-

"Ivan lived in Moscow long ago."

How would you translate the above two sentences?

Everybody is choosing "давно" as the correct answer simply because this is the only correct option in this case. Of three options given, only one means "Ivan has been living in Moscow for a long time," and it is exactly Иван давно живёт в Москве. Two other options are not correct and cannot mean that. It's that simple.

Furthermore, it seems that you're not getting the verb tenses concept in its entirety. "Ivan has been living in Moscow for a long time" and "Ivan lived in Moscow long ago" would make two diffeterent sentences in Russian, and the difference would be in verb tenses use, not in the adverb use: Иван живёт в Москве давно [, уже много лет] vs. Иван жил в Москве давно [, много лет назад.] I hope you can see the difference in present vs. past tense use here.

Давно can be used to mean not only a long time ago but also for a long time (=долго). Likewise недавно, the opposite of давно. This is a good example of the 2nd meaning.

But давно and долго aren't always interchangeable.

You can't, for example, ask Давно (=долго) ли ехать до рынка? You need to use долго.

And there would be a difference between Я давно делаю уроки/домашнее задание and Я долго делаю уроки/домашнее задание. The former means the person's been doing it for a long time now while the latter means they aren't fast enough at it.

Finally, Я долго хочу поехать за границу isn't correct, while Я давно хочу поехать за границу is.

Please do not give people misleading answers. Both 2b and 2c are incorrect because the required tense is present - see the word "makes" in brackets.

I apologize if this is an unpleasant question, but can you explain why 8 must be c (Если Ваня там будет, вы его увидите)? My instinct was that answer as well, but reason (wrongly) suggested that it ought to be b. Is Future Imperfect never used with видеть?

Quite never, right. Something like будет видеть is impossible, only if we are not speaking about somebody who is blind and is going to recover. Maybe, in some situations, we can say Но я опять возвращаюсь в это жуткое место, где каждый день я буду видеть одни и те же серые дома и разваливающиеся сараи, but in usual sentences that's impossible. The same is with слышать.
