Hi all!
I am searching for a text-book that has text-based structure (Unit: a text on a certain topic, new words, grammar, tasks on understanding and grammar exercises). Does anything like this exist?.. I've only seen grammar-based books, the appear to be rather boring and not that effective.
Thank you!

Nachalo, golosa.

I didn't work with Golosa either--we used Nachalo, but a lot of US universities who used Nachalo switched to Golosa, which is why I suggested it.

I've never heard of a well-regarded university level college program using anything else but these 2 books for their beginning Russian students, but maybe Russian departments just aren't looking hard enough. :)

I really like Russian for Beginners by Charles Duff and Dimtri Makaroff. Each lesson introduces new words, new grammar, and includes exercises.
