Though we must know what you mean by "busy".

Almost direct translation would be fine:
У меня сегодня был очень занятой день.

For a change - an absolutely safe and descent expression. I would simply put it like
У меня сегодня было много дел, though it's more synonymous to I had a lot of things to do.
One more option:Я был целый день занят.
