Mar. 30th, 2008 11:41 amHey there,
Is it ok to use запрещен for stating what clothes are acceptable to wear, and разпрешен for unacceptable clothes?
For example, В театре джинсы разпрешены, но брюки запрещены

3. You can say that, but normally people say something like «В театр не разрешается приходить в джинсах», «В театр можно (разрешается) приходить в брюках». OTOH a door sign may state that «Вход в джинсах запрещён».

Неуместно ходить в театр в джинсах, а вот в брюках – уместно.

Date: 2008-04-01 10:42 am (UTC)First of all, there is no such word as "разпрещен" or "разпрещать". On a side note, please keep in mind that the 'раз' preposition (with 'з') is used only before voiced consonants, while before unvoiced consonants the 'рас' preposition should be used.
Secondly, the word 'запрещать' means 'to prohibit', not 'to allow' as you take it.
As it has been already mentioned in the comments, the word 'запрещать' implies a strong absolute prohibition. It is often used with the word 'строго'. 'Строго запрещено' = 'Strictly prohibited'.
