Hey there,

Is it ok to use запрещен for stating what clothes are acceptable to wear, and разпрешен for unacceptable clothes?

For example, В театре джинсы разпрешены, но брюки запрещены

Разрешен (permitted) - is acceptable, запрещен (prohibited) - is unacceptable.

1. It's разрешён, not разпрешен.
2. It's the other way around: запрещён is forbidden, разрешён is permitted.
3. You can say that, but normally people say something like «В театр не разрешается приходить в джинсах», «В театр можно (разрешается) приходить в брюках». OTOH a door sign may state that «Вход в джинсах запрещён».

I agree with the first two comments, but I would also say that разрешен and запрещен are too strong for the situation that you described. It would mean that there is some kind of law or formal rule regulating clothes. I would say something like "Брюки подходят для похода в театр, а джинсы не подходят" (i.e. suitable - not suitabe) or "В театр не принято ходить в брюках" (It's not customary to go to the theater wearing jeans)

Запрещен/разрешен means "prohibited/permitted", which is not quite the same as "(un)acceptable". Your sentence would imply that there is some official, issued prohibition against wearing jeans to a theatre (the words are also the wrong way round, as people have pointed out.)

The words you're looking for are "уместно", "приемлемо", "допустимо" and their "не-" counterparts.

Looks like you are totally lost in these words and take them wrong.
First of all, there is no such word as "разпрещен" or "разпрещать". On a side note, please keep in mind that the 'раз' preposition (with 'з') is used only before voiced consonants, while before unvoiced consonants the 'рас' preposition should be used.
Secondly, the word 'запрещать' means 'to prohibit', not 'to allow' as you take it.
As it has been already mentioned in the comments, the word 'запрещать' implies a strong absolute prohibition. It is often used with the word 'строго'. 'Строго запрещено' = 'Strictly prohibited'.

Another side note. I believe that the word 'запрещать' is derived from the 'претить' verb which means 'to sicken' and is used in constructions like 'мне претит делать это' (it sickens me doing that), 'ему претит <что-либо>', etc.
