If you want to say it about the photo, 'хорошая фотография' would sound OK. You can also say 'милая OR славная фотография' ('славная' means 'nice, cute' in this context). If you want to say 'cute' about the female friend, I would suggest 'симпатичная' or 'милая'.
Cute can be translated as милый or симпатичный. Милый is usually for kids, pets or inner cuteness. Симпатичный is a little more 'mature', mostly it describe external cuteness... About photo you can say "симпатичная фотография", to say that you like the colors, compositions, etc. "Милая фотография" would mean that it touched your soul.
If 'cute' is said about smth, like a photo or a dress, милый, симпатичный will be ok. If it's said about somebody, like 'he's a cutie', you can say прелесть: "Он прелесть".
i think you can translate "cute" as "забавный", and it doesn't depend on the context. wether you say "he is sooo cute" - it can be translated as "он такой забавный", or "this picture is cute", it will be the same. but well, I guess "милый" has kind of the same meaning, so you can use both )))
Nah, "он такой забавный" means "he's so entertaining". It's only obliquely related to "cute". The best word for "cute" is "симпатичный/ая" or "милый/ая", as was suggested above.
