Text for upper-intermediate student

Tomorrow I'll have to conduct the lesson for the student with rather good level of Russian (upper-intermediate, as I was said).
Could you have a look at the text, is it ok for the student of such level? What words could be difficult? Any comments?
(The topic of the lesson should be connected with business or economics)

У нашей традиционной рубрики "Сделки года" в этот раз немного поменялось название. В деловой жизни России в 2007 году произошло немало событий, к которым плохо подходит слово "сделка". Посему рубрика отныне будет называться "Сделки и деловые события".

АвтоВАЗ
В декабре после двух лет переговоров новым стратегическим партнером АвтоВАЗа стал французский автоконцерн Renault.

В феврале 2008 года Renault купит пакет акций АвтоВАЗа. Сумма сделки превысит $1,3 млрд. АвтоВАЗ станет частью альянса Renault-Nissan -- четвертого автопроизводителя в мире. К 2014 году Renault и АвтоВАЗ обещают удвоить выпуск автомобилей в Тольятти до 1,5 млн в год и запустить новые модели под брэндами Lada, Renault и Nissan. Если это произойдет, то трехсторонний альянс Renault-Nissan-АвтоВАЗ к 2014 году станет третьим автопроизводителем в мире с объемом выпуска 9,5 млн машин в год.

Однако говорить с уверенностью, что сделка состоится, пока нельзя. АвтоВАЗ и Renault подписали ни к чему не обязывающий меморандум. Подобные документы завод уже подписывал с канадской Magna и итальянским FIAT. Кроме того, стороны не урегулировали два важных вопроса: распределение полномочий на АвтоВАЗе и вопрос передачи технологий Renault российскому заводу. На АвтоВАЗе считают, что технологии Renault передаст заводу бесплатно. В концерне говорят, что готовы только продать их. Эти разногласия стороны обещают разрешить не позднее 26 февраля 2008 года.

Алюминиевое объединение
В этом году в России осталась только одна алюминиевая компания -- весной СУАЛ Виктора Вексельберга и его партнеров завершил объединение с "Русским алюминием" Олега Дерипаски. Кроме того, в структуру обновленной ОК "Русал" вошел ряд активов швейцарского трейдера Glencore. В результате была создана крупнейшая в мире алюминиевая компания, однако в октябре "Русал" уступил первое место в рейтинге объединившимся Rio Tinto и Alcan.

"Силовые машины" поменяли владельца
В конце ноября владельцем контрольного пакета ОАО "Силовые машины" (крупнейшего в России производителя турбин и генераторов для электроэнергетики и атомных станций) стал Алексей Мордашов. Сперва он приобрел 30,4% акций "Силовых машин" у ХК "Интеррос" (это произошло еще в сентябре), а затем докупил блокпакет компании у энергохолдинга РАО "ЕЭС России". За 55,4% акций "Силовых машин" господин Мордашов заплатил в общей сложности $957 млн.

Алексей Мордашов был не единственным претендентом на "Силовые машины" -- контрольный пакет компании старался приобрести глава "Базового элемента" Олег Дерипаска. Однако сразу после сделки с "Интерросом" Алексей Мордашов договорился с концерном Siemens (ему принадлежит еще 25% акций "Силовых машин") о совместном управлении компанией. В частности, гендиректором "Силовых машин" был назначен Игорь Костин -- бывший первый заместитель господина Мордашова в "Северсталь-групп". Такие договоренности означали, что Алексей Мордашов де-факто получил контроль над "Силовыми машинами", имея всего 30,4% акций компании.

В этих условиях участие структур Олега Дерипаски в торгах РАО ЕЭС по продаже блокпакета "Силовых машин" было формальностью. Господин Дерипаска добровольно отказался от участия в торгах уже на втором этапе подачи ценовых предложений (их привозили в офис РАО ЕЭС в конвертах). В итоге энергохолдинг объявил победителем торгов Алексея Мордашова.

It is a very good text quite could be placed to some of russian business editions. No impression that is written by foreigner. I hope, it isn't "copy/paste". :-)

2. Сперва - is a colloquial word, you'd better use "сначала" in this text.

As for the level all the paragraves of this article seem to be of the same, advanced level.
In my opinion, it will be difficult for intermediate students. Do your intermediate students read original business editions?

As someone who's at the intermediate level, I'd say it's at about the right level. There is some vocabulary that I haven't seen before, but I figured out most of the meanings from the context. The grammar is good (nothing I haven't seen before) and I get the general idea of what's being discussed. Good choice.

Vocabulary! Structures are usually quite simple in business papers.
I'd rather change these words and word combination:
урегулировать, распределение полномочий, договореность, принадлежать, участие структур.
Or pull them out if it's impossible.

I see not many people read your post and went straight to correcting the article ^_^

I'm in my third year of formal study now, so technically "advanced" I guess. I would say it should be alright as long as you help him out a lot. I also tutor beginning level, and I suppose it's about at the upper intermediate level but be prepared if it's too difficult for him.

This text could be hard for quite some of russians, I'd wager. How would english-speakers call it? Too much "red tape"? :)

Anyway, if I were the one studying a language, I would welcome challenges and actuality of the texts provided. Our university English teachers fail so hard at that. -_-

The text is pretty nice from my non-proffessional point of view. Some vignettes here and there (like "Посему" and abundant long sentences with names and stuff), but nothing an eager mind could (or perhaps "should") fail to decipher. I approve. Whether it's too easy or too hard — I guess, you'll see.
