Мне не терпится is normally used with the infinitive. Мне не терпится пойти, Мне не терпится увидеть, etc.

Скорее бы уже мы requires the past tense of the verb. Скорее бы уже мы пошли в кино!

Thanks for the responses. Which of these is the most conversational and common in your opinion? When people say "I'm looking forward to doing something" in English, it is a very common and mild phrase, it doesn't express any very strong emotions. I don't want to sound like an overly excited idiot... so let me know what's the most mild! Thanks

this is probably because there is no such exact phrase in Russian, or the way how people talk does not need a phrase like that

it's either quite emotional like above, or quite neutral like "хорошо/конечно", or maybe "скорее бы" sometimes

I mean that we can use "мне очень хотелось бы" + something necessary instead of "сделать это", e.g. "мне очень хотелось бы поработать в этой фирме" or "мне очень хотелось бы встретиться с ними". Indeed, I don't see anything unusual here.

If you want to sound milder, you can just say - хотелось бы (поскорее) + verb.

"Хотелось бы поскорее их увидеть."

The thing is that in spoken Russian we don't ususally say things like "c нетерпением жду" and "не могу дождаться" implies quite strong emotional attitude to the event.

True, but we are asked about the mildest way, so if we wanna sound mild, we should give other examples. It goes beyond dictionaries - more like how to express the idea of the phrase "look forward to" in other words.

This is fine, but I'm more interested in a situation where I have specific plans with someone and I want to tell them that I am looking forward to those plans. "Nadejus'" implies that you hope some plans will be made, it doesn't seem suitable for that situation.

Or you can just say - "Поскорей бы!" That's used in spoken Russian a lot.

It is not about "the mildest" or "not the mildest". The meaning is different. "Мне очень хотелось бы..." means that you are by no means sure that the event will happen, you just want it to happen. And "жду с нетерпением" means that the event has already been scheduled, i.e. you know that it will happen and you await it eagerly.
