No, натворить is not obscene at all and I did not say so. It rather means "Look what you've done!" (meaning you have done some nasty deed, possibly intentionally or through negligence) and has nothing to do with creativity or development of one's talents. So, do not try to use it in your context, it's no good.

"Что тут натворилось?" - you could not hear that because this is not a correct phrase in Russian. It can be either "Что ты натворил?!" or "Что тут случилось?" because натворять and натворилось are not words in Russian.

If you want to stop someone from doing smth. you can say "Зачем ты этим занимаешься?" or "Тебе нет смысла этим заниматься" or, if you want to be rude, "За каким чертом ты это делаешь?"

"frustrated" does not have a direct equivalent in Russian. The best I know is облом (noun) and обломаться (verb) but they are slang and quite out of place in a paper. Use отчаяться, разочароваться в собственных силах. Maybe расстроиться too, but расстроиться as I see it is a feeling that you feel for a short time, and frustration is a deeper and longer condition; разочарование (в своих силах) is probably more like it.
