"Старина! Сто лет не виделись!" would be better. The phrase you wrote is suitable to man-woman dialogue, not man-man, if they're not gays.

It may mean that either he treats you as a very close friend and is trying to show how valuable you are for him (which is ok, I don't know anything about your relations), or that he is really a very tender and friendly person (what happens from time to time), or that he is a gay.
