[identity profile] upthera44.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
I just learned that I'll be spending the next year living and teaching in Novosibirsk. I'm looking forward to it, but I don't know much about this area. Does anyone know of any links to blogs, informational sites, etc. that provide information about Novosibirsk or even Siberia in general? All I've found so far is Wikipedia's scant article.

Can you read Russian, or are you looking for English sources?

Just a question -

Are you obligated to start your teacher's career in Novosibirsk, or you have a choice?

Well, having read your blog I can assume that your Russian is good enough for Rassian web-sites. I'd recommend www.ngs.ru - on of the most polpular saites in Nsk. You can register in forum and ask your questions there and you'll get a lot of useful answers :)
Good luck in Nsk!

Just ask in those communities. But beware, Russian-speaking LJ people can be not very polite sometimes :)

But quite a bit violent, if I'm to believe my friends from there. Especially in Akademgorodok. ;)

Lonely Planet's Trans-Siberian Railway (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/174059536X/002-4095274-2539212?ie=UTF8&tag=3636363-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=174059536X) guide gives plenty of information for foreigners coming to the city, as well as the other cities you're likely to pass through during your time in Russia.

Well, they all time remembered all types of street brawls and occasional robberies. Dunno, maybe they were a kind of a brawler types, but as both are now physics Ph.Ds in their late thirties that's unlikely.... ^_^
