Hi,

I would like to ask your advice, dear students of russian.

Do you think it is a good idea to give our cartoon "Ну погоди!" as a gift to someone who doesn't speak russian?

Well, they don't speak much there and it's very funny. At least for us russians.

Thanks :)

I do enjoy having comics in languages that I don't speak or don't speak very well. When I was in Germany I bought a Calvin and Hobbes book in German. I only know a couple of words in German, but I thought it was cool (I had the books in English already).

I say go for it!

We have similar cartoons in English, but "Ну погоди" definitely has a nice Russian flavor. I think your friends will enjoy it and appreciate the difference. All you have to do is translate "ну погоди" :)

We used to watch Ну погоди all the time in my Russian class even before we really even knew any Russian and I've showed it to a bunch of my non Russian speaking friends who enjoyed it as much as I do.

I agree with everyone above. ну погоди has very little dialog, and most of the humor is physical in nature anyway.

Another cartoon without words that comes to my mind is Contact. It's great :)

get Винни Пух instead! it's so fun to see such a different, very Russian version of a cartoon we have in the US.

Why would I mention English cartoons in this topic? ;)
It's Russian cartoon about an whistling artist and an alien that takes the form of everything it sees. Great cartoon, great jazz music :)

Well, THAT is quite obvious from the show itself. ^_^

oh, that cartoon. Definitely share it. I think the concepts are universal. I didn't know what the words meant the first time I saw it, and I still appreciated it and understood as much as those who did.
