Hi all -

Does anyone know how to enter accented vowels in Microsoft Word or Excel when using the Russian keyboard layout? I know that accents aren't normally written, but I'd like to put them in when I'm typing up vocabulary notes.

Thanks!

Don't you *work* for Microsoft? =P

I usually just use bold or italic to mark an accent, personally. =/

As far as I know, Cyrillic subset of Unicode doesn't include accented vowels. I suggest that you add combining acute accent (́) after the stressed vowel. Hexadecimal Unicode code for it is 0301. Previous versions of Word allowed you to appoint a keyboard shortcut for symbols; now you'll have to record a macro, I'm afraid.
Remember that "ё" is always stressed and that there's no need to mark the stress in monosyllabic words.
I dissaprove of the widespread practice of marking the stress by capitalisation, bold or italic.

I'm not sure about Exel, but in Word, you can try this: go to Insert > Symbol and choose/paste the character manually.

Not that there is any stressed Cyrillic vowel in any charset, I'm afraid. One has to substitute Central European letters like á for that. And even then, where can you find a stressed ы?

In Word, when you're typing in Russian, first type the vowel to be accentuated, then type 0301 (the number will actually appear on the page, but don't worry about it), then press Alt+X (where X is latin, that is the key with russian Ч). This code (0301, Alt+X) is for the "combining acute accent", and it can also be found in "Insert -> Symbol -> Subset: Combining diacritical marks"
Good luck!

Taken from here (http://www.learning-russian.gramota.ru/book/litnevskaya.html?part1.htm#8).
In word pasted text from mentioned above document looks like "́" over "o" and could be selected only as one connected symbol. Searched through charset and even couldn't find corresponding symbol. I don't have a clue, how they made it but it seems it's that you're looking for.

Alt+0769 (on the numeric key pad).

* 0769 is decimal for 301 in hex.

And what's so funny? There's no such symbol for each vowel with '`' upside.
Typing Alt+0769 just adds it upside before cursor placed vowel. There's nothing strange that I couldn't know about that combination...

> There's no such symbol for each vowel with '`' upside.

And that's because there's no need for that!

> Typing Alt+0769 just adds it upside before cursor placed vowel.

It'll add it above any given character.
