what exactly is the difference between this community and ru_translate? simply that ru_translate is for all languages rather than only english and russian? or because this community is only about grammar and not about direct translation of sentences or paragraphs?
i don't want to erroniously post the wrong sort of thing in the wrong place, and so would appreciate clarification.
furthermore, what ever happened to "russian_wotd"?
it looks like it would have been helpful.

ru_translate is for translating only, but from and to all languages.

This community is for language study, and only for the study of Russian language.

So, the two are actually very much different.

P.S. No one will kill you if you post a "wrong" question here as long as it is related to Russian language study or translation. But I know that people in ru_translate do not appreciate when someone asks them to do one's homework for him/her. E.g. they will probably not have enough patience to correct the cases in your own rendition of "Мама мыла раму. У Маши мяч." They do appreciate some advanced question related to translation, however.

ru_translate is for native Russian speakers to help them with their English (or other languages).
This community is for English speakers to help them with their Russian.

ru_translate is not for helping with English, it is for helping with translation. There is a certain difference between language study and translation.

P.S. Actually, ru_translate is not for Russian native speakers only. Sometimes people ask questions in English there, about Russian. This is not essential, but the nature of these questions is.

They are not very frequent but they happen once in a while. There are also non-native speakers of Russian among the community members, like clittary_hilton or brokster or enigmata and some more.

I've never encountered the second one, but the first and the third ones are native speakers all right.

clittary_hilton is NOT a native speaker.
The fact that she writes in Russian does not make her one. Ask her if you don't believe me. Yes, her Russian is quite good, but nevertheless.

Anyway, this is not directly related to the original question, so let us stop at that.
