What is купил vs. подарил? Or are they interchangable?

Купил is bought, подарил - gave a present.

купил/подарил ему = bought/gave him
They can be interchangeable, but in a very narrow context.

Depends on the context. Купил кому-то is close to подарил. Otherwise it's just "bought".
For example, Я купил своей дочери велосипед & Я подарил своей дочери велосипед are pretty much interchangeable, but the latter would be more appropriate if you are talking about a birthday present.
