[identity profile] krikketgirl.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
I thank everyone for their kind welcome! My first (and most currently pressing) question: can anyone recommend a good resource for learning how to properly write Russian? The books I am using have the alphabet written out, and perhaps a few example words here and there. I am able, then to write each letter (more or less) correctly, but I seem unable to join them to one another properly. My pastor, when he writes in Russian, tends to write each letter more or less separately, but I would really like to learn how to do it the 'right' way.

Have you any suggestions?

Just remember to put a little hook before l, m, and ya. Those are totally essential and I was left wondering about that from the books that I used.

These programs will help you a little probably

Yes, they are. The other thing: don't connect letters after o, б, ь, or ъ. It's also best not to connect letters before г, but that's not a hard and fast rule at all. There are also variants on how people write their т's. Some people write them like m with a line above (or without), and some more or less like a т in print, but with a connecting line before, and then they do the top stroke and connect there if possible. At the end of verbs, some people will often connect the top stroke of the т to the following ь. Personally, I think that can get a bit sloppy, but at the same time, it removes one of the "loopy" letters from the script like the и, ш, щ, ц, м, л, and й, and so sometimes it can aid with clarity. Also, try not to make your ж a whole lot bigger and more spread out than other letters.
