Dec. 23rd, 2005 08:55 amHello,
I don't know if this is too off-topic, but if so, please delete this entry. I was hoping to familiarize myself more with Russian culture and was hoping someone could recommend some popular Russian music to me (other than t.A.T.U.), both old and new. I already did some research on-line but would like some more suggestions if possible. I know musical preferences vary, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Date: 2005-12-23 03:02 pm (UTC)You should be more concrete. What kind of music do you prefer? Should the bands make their song in russian or in english?
:)

Date: 2005-12-23 03:21 pm (UTC)Мельница, http://www.melnitsa.net/ . Definitely.
Сурганова и оркестр. http://surganova.su/
There's not much new and good music, and it's underground mostly.
Old:
Nautilus Pomlilius, http://www.nautilus.ru/
Кино, http://www.google.ru/search?q=%D0%B3%D1%80%D1%83%D0%BF%D0%BF%D0%B0+%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BE&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:ru:official
(I fail to choose just one site of these)
Аквариум would be fine, too.
All of them are buyable from ozon.ru and most - from allofmp3.com :)

Date: 2005-12-23 04:05 pm (UTC)PS: I mean mostly Мельница/Хелависа etc. Love'em, anyway.
As for rock, why not Пикник or Машина Времени/Макаревич as well?
Pretty sure, any mp3 search site will have them.

Date: 2005-12-23 04:41 pm (UTC)And Мельница is just a topping of rising russian folk iceberg. I hope other bands of this direction will soon be visible too :)
Пикник is hard to understand, it have got a very tricky lyrics.
I haven't listened to Машина Времени much.
And ДДТ is not understandable without a good portion of russian culture+history knowledge. That's why I haven't mentioned them.

Date: 2005-12-23 08:38 pm (UTC)As for "tricky lirics" - you can say that about almost any of rock bands.
Hmm.. Have anybody named Авария, Ария, Аквариум?

Date: 2005-12-23 08:43 pm (UTC)If you'll quiz 15 years girls in-street, you'll probably get 100% for some trash like Фабрика Звезд. But if you ask here, in this community, people who listen to Мельница or Аквариум dominate people listening to попса in the order of magnitude :)
And
Ария and Аквариум were mentioned.
